This powerful exhibition explores Toi Māori through bold design, innovative use of space, and interactive elements. Artist Wharehoka Smith draws on whakapapa and generations of Toi Māori artists, blending traditional and contemporary ideas to challenge what Toi Māori is, was, and can be.
1. Curved Display Wall
We built a 24-metre curved wall using steel poles and adjustable brackets. UV-printed panels attach with velcro, making the whole display modular and easy to adapt.
2. Beam Artwork
The artist’s original hand-drawn designs were digitised and stenciled. We then carefully hand-painted each beam with help from the museum team—each one unique.
3. Interactive Building Blocks
We crafted a scale model of the space from laminated bamboo ply. Visitors can build their own structures using pillar and beam shapes inspired by Wharehoka’s work.
4. Text Panels
Custom laser-cut acrylic panels were reverse-printed and mounted using our in-house brackets for a clean, professional finish.
This project was a true collaboration and a privilege to be part of.
